HANOI Extending sightseeing options in Hanoi, the city’s famous  opera house will open for tours starting this June.

Local media reported the tours will support the policy of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to add more sightseeing options starting with the opening of  the Hanoi Opera House.

The Department of Performing Arts, Hanoi Opera House and Vietnam National Administration of Tourism will offer two tours, highlighting the Hanoi Opera House and another combining it with an art show.

Visitors will be welcomed at the VIP room of the theatre for a brief introduction about its history and architecture followed by a visit to the display room and finally an art performance or exhibition.

The programme will connect with other cultural activities at the Hanoi walking street, which is expected to become a special cultural attraction for tourists in Hanoi, the report said.

Dubbed a miniature of the Opera Garnier in Paris, the Hanoi Opera House was built in 1911 by the French colonial administration. Today, it still remains one of most opulent buildings in Hanoi and is the venue for events, conferences and high-class domestic and world-class performances.

Hanoi’s tourism sector, this year, will generate 23.39 million trips, including 4.08 million foreign visits, with an estimated revenue of USD2.89 billion, according to the Municipal Tourism Department.
