KOTA KINABALU Sabah recently hosted two China incentive groups, each with more than 2,000 delegates.
JM Group and Perfect China are both China’s top direct sales companies.
Sabah was chosen because of its mix of beaches, cultural elements and resorts that could host large gala dinners in a garden and pool setting.
Sabah is gaining the attention of Chinese incentive groups that are attracted by the state’s natural resources including Mount Kinabalu and dive holiday opportunities.
Up to March this year, Sabah’s international tourist arrivals reached 302,402 with the top contributors, China and Hong Kong, generating 106,628 visits (+18.5%) compared to the same period last year.
Visitors from China and Hong Kong generated MYR1.28 billion in tourism receipts in 2016.
“With the Sabah International Convention Centre expected to be completed in 2018, Sabah will be able to attract even bigger groups of up to 5,000 people,” said the chairman of Sabah Tourism Board, Datuk Joniston Bangkuai.
