Thailand’s most popular parks

BANGKOK Thailand’s Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation reports park visits reached over 15.3 million during October 2016 to June 2017.

Released last Thursday, the department’s figures showed 15,327,573 visitors visited 150 national parks nationwide and generated THB1,866,521,223 in revenue during October 2016 to June 2017.

Of all visits, 10,874,487 were by Thais and 4,453,086 by foreigners, who pay more than double the price to enter parks. In terms of revenue, the two markets are almost on par.

Noppharat Thara – Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park in Krabi topped the list of the 10 most popular parks recording 1,499,673 visits, mostly driven by tourists visiting island attractions.

Khao Yai National Park in Nakhon Ratchasima followed in second place with 1,210,979 visits.

Ao Phang-Nga National Park in Phang Nga ranked in third with 925,833 visits.

Khao Khitchakut National Park in Chanthaburi was placed fourth with 925,056 visits and Doi Inthanon National Park in Chiang Mai in fifth place attracted 755,154 visits.

The next top five sites were: Khao Laem Ya – Mu Ko Samet National Park in Rayong (713,074); Mu Koh Similan National Park in Phang Nga (626,313); Erawan National Park in Kanchanaburi (535,025); Namtok Phlio National Park in Chanthaburi (530,233); and Namtok Chet Sao Noi National Park in Saraburi (419,193).
