Visitors to the Philippines can expect better and more polite assistance following the deployment of special tourist police to 14 of the country’s major destinations.According to the Philippines Department of Tourism (DOT) Western Visayas regional director, Edwin Trompeta, tourist ‘cops’ will undergo special training on how to deal with tourists, the Inquirer.net reported.

“Aside from their peace-keeping responsibilities, they will be trained how to relate to tourists especially in responding to complaints and requests for assistance,” Mr Trompeta said.According to the website, the new force would be trained in peace and order, cultural sensitivity, language understanding and be given tips on acting as tourist guides.

The tourist police will wear light blue polo shirts and dark blue pants or shorts and will operate from specially designated assistance desks within police stations, the Inquirer reported.Destinations to operate the special units include Boracay Island, Metro Manila, Cebu, Baguio City, Davao City, Bohol and Puerto Princesa among others.
