Emirates has announced that it is making a 'major move' to support tourism in the Seychelles by boosting the frequency of its flights to the island group by 100%.

The airline currently operates daily services to the destination from Dubai and will begin offering 12 weekly connections from 28 March. Two additional daily flights will be added as part of the winter schedule, meaning two links to the Seychelles will be available every day by the end of the year.

Majid Al Mualla, Emirates' senior vice president of commercial operations in west Asia and the Indian Ocean, pointed out that, compared to January 2010, the carrier is increasing its capacity between Dubai and the Seychelles by 350%.'The increase in frequency is the fruit of all our efforts and investment in promoting the Seychelles across our network,' he added.

'Our recent campaigns have stepped up demand for the route as well as opened up new feeder markets. The increasing number of tourists will welcome these additional flights as they will have more travel options and better connectivity.'

Alain St Ange, chief executive officer of the Seychelles Tourism Board, welcomed Emirates' announcement and said that the development is in line with the destination's plan to create an open skies policy for air services.
