Korea upgrades tourism services

The Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) has introduced an Android and iPhone app to provide countrywide travel information- Visit Korea. Visit Korea, in English and Korean, features travel news, recommended itineraries, and photos from professional travel publications along with important tourist information.

“Using GPS function, the user can search for the nearest attractions, accommodations, restaurants and shopping areas with full details and directions to get there. And to help foreign tourist who doesn’t speak Korean, Visit Korea App. offers audio files of conversations categorized by the possible situation that might occur during their visit to Korea,” Global U-Tourism Manager, Helee Park, told FutureGov Asia Pacific.

“Integrating 1330 tourist information phone service to the app, travellers can be provided with personalized service through smart phones. And the About Korea page provides currency converter, weather, and world time service on Korean cities.”The app content is based on visitkorea.or.kr; new contents on the web are also uploaded in the mobile apps.

As Korea is renowned for its wide distribution of smart phones and love for mobile applications, Visit Korea app successfully placed itself as the most downloaded application in Korea in its first week.

Now with about 370,000 downloads for Korean version, and 2,500 downloads for English version, KTO continues to receive positive feedback on the variety and wide range of information and easily accessible user interface.
