Emirates plans to establish a direct flight between Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, and Phnom Penh, according to a company representative, although no exact date has been provided as to when the service will be made available.
Emirates has been present in the Kingdom since July last year, with a route connecting Dubai and the Cambodian capital via Yangon in Myanmar.
“We want to have a direct flight as soon as possible,” said Abdulla Adnan, Emirates’ manager in Cambodia, speaking yesterday during a ceremony to mark Emirates’ first anniversary in Cambodia.
“However, we cannot provide an exact date as it takes time to create a new route. It is not something that can be done overnight,” he said, explaining that their plans to establish a direct flight between the capitals of UEA and Cambodia is based on the latter’s tremendous economic growth and potential in the aviation sector.
“We have great confidence in the Cambodian market and will continue to explore further opportunities to develop travel links between Cambodia and the world through the Emirates hub in Dubai.
“We entered Cambodia last year on the back of the strong economic performance that the country has experienced over the past two decades. We are now proud to have contributed to the Cambodian growth story,” Mr Adnan said.
In Cambodia, Emirates uses Boeing 777-300ER aircraft equipped with business and economy class configurations. More than 77,000 passengers have flown with Emirates since the company entered the Cambodian market.
