Tourism growth could boost employee rewards

Growth in the tourism industry could result in increased employee rewards across the Asia Pacific region.According to the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), international tourism in the Asia Pacific grew by more than 13 per cent in 2010.In addition, tourist arrivals in the coming year are expected to increase by between seven and nine per cent.

UNWTO secretary-general Taleb Rifai explained that Japanese tourism may be affected by the aftermath of the recent earthquake, but "the dynamism and resilience of the tourism sector in Asia will contribute to foster continued growth throughout the region."

Continued growth could result in new jobs and employee opportunities in Indonesia and Vietnam, who have planned targeted marketing strategies to boost tourism. Sri Lanka could also see increased employee rewards, with the country reporting economic benefits from their tourism industry.

An additional boost to tourism in the Asia Pacific region could come from a new hotel in Hong Kong.Ritz-Carlton have opened the world's tallest hotel in the city, adding another property to its portfolio of luxury hotels in Asia.
