South Korea will provide $9 million in development assistance to Cambodia in 2010 and 2011 to fund a road construction project to alleviate tourist traffic in Angkor Wat Archaeological Park in Sem Reap, the South Korean Embassy said yesterday. The grant aid, to be administered through South Korean development agency KOICA, was announced after South Korean President Lee Myung-bak and Prime Minister Hun Sen?s visit to Angkor Wat on Friday, according to a statement on the website of the Blue House?as the office of the South Korean president is known The grant will fund a bypass road that would rearrange tourist traffic away from the busy Angkor Thom area in order to conserve the cultural heritage she, said Hort Sroeun of KOICA. During the two-day visit of Mr Lee on Thursday and Friday, South Korea and Cambodia signed an extradition treaty, a $200 million loan that extends to 2012 and seven agreements pertaining to education, rice exports, petroleum and mineral resource development, climate change and the environment bilateral trade and broadcasting.
