Progress of Tourist Visa on Arrival Scheme

As a facilitative measure to attract more foreign tourists to India, Government launched a Scheme of “Visa on Arrival” (VoA) from January 2010 for citizens of five countries, viz. Finland, Japan, Luxembourg, New Zealand and Singapore, visiting India for tourism purposes. The Government has now extended this Scheme for the citizens of six more countries, namely Cambodia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines, Laos and Myanmar from January 2011.

During the month of March 2011, a total number of 1089 VoAs were issued under this Scheme. The number of VoAs issued during the month of February 2011 were 1026.During the period January-March 2011, a total number of 2905 VoAs were issued. The number of VOAs issued under this scheme, during March 2011 were New Zealand (222), Japan (213), Indonesia (193), Singapore (162), Philippines (140), Finland (110), Cambodia (30), Myanmar (8) Vietnam (7) and Luxemburg (4).The number of VoAs issued under this scheme, during January-March 2011 were New Zealand (705), Japan (583), Singapore (431), Finland (411), Philippines (392), Indonesia (296), Cambodia (42), Vietnam (19), Luxemburg (14), Myanmar (11), and Laos (1). During the period January-March 2011, the maximum number of VoAs were issued at Delhi airport (1512), followed by Mumbai (759), Chennai (474) and Kolkata (160).
