Domestic tourism to thrive this holiday

Tourism officials expect 70 percent of tourists to remain and travel domestically because of the political crises and natural disasters in several Middle East and East Asia countries.An official said the events abroad are tragic but domestic tourism will benefit from people not traveling abroad.
Salahuddin Yassin, executive director of Tourism at Al-Tayyar Group for Travel, said unrest in some Arab countries would see a growth in domestic tourism because less tourists are planning to go abroad.
He expects that 70 percent of tourists will be spending their holidays in the country. Those who do intend to travel abroad are likely to go to Turkey, he said.
Atif Hasan, Chairman of Atif Organization for Tourism Abroad, expects an 80 percent reduction in travel abroad this holiday, with the remaining 20 percent probably heading for Turkey, Egypt and Asian countries that have not been hit by natural disasters.
