The Philippines, which has been promoting its tourism industry, sees China as one of its key markets, the local tourism department said Wednesday.
Tourism Secretary Alberto Lim said the government is working hard to improve the country's infrastructure, facilities, and services in preparation for the arrival of more Chinese tourists.
Lim said China's outbound travelers is expected to reach 100 million by 2020, making it the strongest source of tourists in Asia and the world.
The Philippines hope to tap the market especially after an 18 percent growth in the number of Chinese travelers visiting the Philippines last year. This means that China is one of the fastest- growing markets for Philippine tourism, Lim said.
By 2016, the Philippines hope to double the number of tourist arrivals in the country to six million from three million.
