VN extends domestic network

Vietnam Airlines has launched two new direct flights ? Hanoi - Tuy Hoa and Hanoi - Pleiku- with an initial frequency of three and four flights per week, respectively.

The airline uses its Fokker - 70 on both routes. The three-weekly flight Hanoi - Tuy Hua service was launched 24 October with services every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. Pleiku - bound services weres introduced, 27 October, every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday.

Both Tuy Hua and Pleiku were strategically important cities during the Vietnam War. Tuy Hua, the capital city of Phu Yen Province in south-central Vietnam, the eastern-most province of Vietnam?s mainland was home of an Air Force base, built in 1966, and was one of several South Vietnamese Air Force bases built and used by the US Air Force during the Vietnam War.

Phu Yen is developing as a hub for factories and export industries in central Vietnam using Vung Ro or Van Phong Port. The province is also zoning and developing a large economic zone, Nam Phu Yen Economic Zone, which will become an oil-refining hub for the entire country.

Pleiku is a town is located in the central highland region. It is the capital of the Gia Lai Province and sits at the junction of several highways ? the northern road to Kontum and the highway west to St?ng Treng in Cambodia. The city was the primary terminus on a military supply logistics corridor extending westwards along Highway 19 from the port at Qui Nhon.
