Malaysia Airlines cuts business class fares

Malaysia Airlines kicked off its Dream Getaways, Monday;andnbsp; one month of global business class dealsandnbsp; for travel across its network, including Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Malaysia.

The booking period runs from 25 April to 24 May with a travel period from 25 April to 31 March 2012.Malaysia Airlines area manager Thailand and Indochina, Selvadurai Sinniah said: “We’re offering discounts of up to 50% off normal market fares for business class.”

Business class passengers can purchase all-inclusive return fares from Bangkok and Phuket at Bt59,565 to Melbourne and Sydney, Bt50,794 to Perth, Bt72,070 to Auckland, Bt70,074 to London, Bt62,150 to Amsterdam, Bt64,625 to Paris, Bt61,640 to Rome and Bt64,350 to Frankfurt.

Travel to Kuala Lumpur on business class from Bangkok starts at Bt11,990 and from Phuket at Bt8,705.Economy class fares are available, but only for Kuala Lumpur — Bt5,120 from Bangkok and Bt4,080 from Phuket.The deals are available through all distribution channels.

Compared to other airlines operating non-stop services from Bangkok, MH is around 50% cheaper, though travel will involve a stop in Kuala Lumpur of around two hours.Other carriers with one-stop options generally sell business class fares on long-haul routes from Bt90,000.

On Australian routes, Qantas and British Airways offer 14 weekly flights with business class fares set at Bt104,880 to Sydney. Thai Airways International has 18 flights a week and sells at Bt97,300 roundtrip.THAI sells Melbourne (twice daily) from Bt96,640 and Perth (daily), from Bt89,475.

On MH flights to Sydney, the connecting time is a little less than two hours on the outward journey and four hours on the return sector, while one and half hours for Melbourne on both sectors. Perth is not applicable as the connecting timeandnbsp; is 10 hours either way.

On the Auckland route, THAI sells business class at Bt123,135, on a five weekly service, that increases to daily in July. Malaysia Airlines offers five weekly services with a connecting time of one hour for the outbound leg and two hours on the inbound.

Lufthansa has daily services to Frankfurt quoting Bt Bt124,525, while THAI (twice daily) sells at Bt134,755. On Malaysia Airlines, the connecting time is two to three hours in KL for its five weekly services. The fare is Bt64,650, which is a considerable saving for passengers prepared to make a stop in KL.

Air France’s Paris fare starts at Bt132,245 (daily service), while THAI, Bt135,040, (double daily). MH operates a daily flight to the French capital with a connecting time of three and a half hours on the outbound and one and half hours on the return sector.

The London business fare on British Airways (daily) starts from Bt143,100. THAI sells at Bt147,355 on its double daily service. MH operates daily to London with a connecting time of three and a half hours on the way out and two hours on the return sector.THAI sells Rome from Bt129,815 (four weekly). MH flies three weekly with a connecting time of three hours on the outbound sector and two hours on the return.

KLM has the lowest fare to Amsterdam at Bt129,770 and China Airlines Bt78,155.All airfares include airport taxes, fuel surcharge, insurance and administrative fees for travelling during May and June. They are subject to change due to currency fluctuation and are subject to seat availability.
