Singapore Sees Increase in International Visitors

Singapore is continuing to grow as an global tourism destination, having reported a 15.7 percent year-over-year increase in international visitors for the first quarter of 2011. All three first-quarter months reached record highs for international arrivals, for a combined 3.12 million visitors.

In addition, the Southeast Asian city-state saw a 35.7 percent year-over-year increase in tourism receipts, to US$4 billion, for the quarter, with the U.S. market contributing 40 percent of those receipts.

American travelers also accounted for 20 percent of all food-and-beverage receipts, the most from any country. This October, Singapore will host the second annual TravelRave, a weeklong festival highlighting the tourism industry in Asia. Last year, the event drew 8,000 attendees.
