Nepal promotes visit year

The latest UK travel advisory update, issued Wednesday, warns travellers to Nepal of “frequent shutdowns and street rallies in Kathmandu that can turn violent and cause widespread disruptions.

The advisory also warns visitors there have been “several airline accidents” in Nepal in the last year. It recommends travellers to check an airline’s safety standards through the International Civil Aviation Organisation http://www.icao.int/. See Safety and Security – Air Travel.

Meanwhile six months into promoting the Nepal Tourism Year 2011, Nepal’s leading travel companies are visiting Bangkok, Thursday, to sell tourism year promotions to local tour operators. They hope to revive interest in the destination in the local travel trade market, where tour package sales to the mountainous country have been on the wane for the last eight years.]

“Nepal Tourism Year 2011” was officially launched last January.The Pacific Asia Travel Association assisted the Nepal PATA Chapter to organise a presentation to Thailand’s travel executives as well as a table-top sales session hosted at the Landmark Hotel, Thursday evening.

The Nepal Tourism Board, Nepal PATA Chapter and tour operators from Nepal are heading the mission. They hope to meet their counterparts from the Thailand Travel Agents Association and outbound tour operators who are members of PATA.

Nepalese companies attending include: Fishtail Tours andamp; Travels, Global Holidays, Nepal Dream Travel Services, The Everest Hotel Kathmandu, and the KGH Group.The B2B sessions runs from 1730 to 1830, followed by a Qandamp;A and cocktail reception and dinner.
