Vietnam Airlines is seeking government approval to invest US$8.38 billion in a major fleet expansion that aims to raise fleet strength to 170 aircraft by 2020.
A local newspaper, Dau Tu, quoted a government's investment department report that said the national carrier was seeking government approval for additional aircraft.
The state-run newspaper did not say how many aircraft are on the shopping list, but the investment estimate is US$8.38 billion to increase fleet strength to 170 in 2020. By 2015 the airline should reach a fleet strength of 110 based on present orders.
Currently, Vietnam Airlines has 68 aircraft on its books and is waiting delivery of 24 A321; 10 A350-900 and nine B787-9.
