An officially joint ceremony of tourism sector into the Ministry of Information and Culture was held at the National Culture Hall, on 27 July.
The signing ceremony was held between former Minister to Prime Minister’s Office who was also President of Lao National Tourism Administration (LNTA), Mr. Somphong Mongkhonvilay and Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Mr. Bosengkham Vongdala.
Attending the ceremony were Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Asang Laoly and Minister of Ministry of Interior, Mr. Khampan Philavong who is also standing member of Government Structure Improvement Committee, line deputy ministers, and directors and officials.
Mr. Somphong has briefed the general situations of tourism sector, so far it sound many sectors have been developed. The LNTA has closely disseminated the Party’s policy and state regulation in the public.
In 2010, 2.5 million tourists visited Laos compared to 2009 increased by 25.19% and drawing income of US$381 million.
Mr. Asang who is also Chairman of Government Structure Improvement Committee has praised the previous achievements of LNTA.
“Joining tourism sector into the Ministry of Information and Culture has been done based the realistic demand of current tourism work,” Mr. Asang said. “In the coming years there will be more challenges and complicated situations in the region. Concerning over the matter, the government will improve the structure of Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism to strengthen its new structure of ministry so as to ensure the ministry achieving breakthrough and guarding against social shortcoming.”
He has called on the officials to conduct more study and use of means to acquire and attract more tourists and matching with party’s guideline especially the implementation of tourism of Visit Laos Year 2012.
