Cao Tri Dung, director of Danang-based Vitours, told the Daily that China’s Chengdu-Danang and Hong Kong-Danang routes scheduled for this May were canceled. Meanwhile, routes like Kunming-Danang by China Southern Airlines and Taipei-Danang by China Eastern Airlines are rescheduled until August 8 and 18, around three months later than initially planned.
“The changes have been made due to a decline in travel demand,” Dung said.
Vitours is the only travel agent to serve tourists from Kunming and cooperate with other partners to receive travelers from Taipei.
“The flights will operate within a year. The number of chartered flights from China to Danang is lower than expected but it still increases two times compared to the same period of last year,” Dung said.
Vitours is receiving more tourists from chartered flights from Guangzhou and Shanghai.
* The newly established Vietnam MICE (meetings, incentives, conventions, exhibitions) Club has announced that it would promote the country’s MICE tourism in an international travel fair in Thailand’s Bangkok in October and the World Travel Market 2011 in England in November.
The club has also selected eight overseas travel fairs to attend next year.
A representative of the club told the Daily that Vietnam Airlines has agreed to offer discount tickets to members of the club to join such events to promote MICE tourism worldwide.
