If you are looking for a life-changing experience you had better head east, as it seems you are most likely to find one in India, according to a new survey.
The country came out on top in a poll asking people which destination changed them the most.
Asia-Pacific locales dominating the list, with Cambodia coming in second place, followed by Australia and Thailand, which nearly tied for third spot.
The Lonely Planet poll, conducted on its Facebook and Twitter pages, found some of the most popular gap year destinations in the world can are among those that change travellers the most.
Lonely Planet spokesperson Heather Carswell said: 'It's not surprising that India took first place, it is a perennial favourite with travellers and one of the most vibrant, challenging and exciting places to visit in the world.
'The country’s fascinating culture, diversity and great value make it possible to have truly unique experiences.'
According to the results, people looking for a life-changing experience with more of an urban flavour should head to New York City, which was the only city to rank high on the list.
