During SEA Games, Foreign Tourist Visits Increased 10 Percent

Jakarta Tourism and Culture Department predicts the number of foreign tourist in Jakarta increased as much as 5-10 percent during the SEA Games is held on November 11-22. Head of Jakarta Tourism and Culture Department Arie Budhiman stated that most of the foreign tourists are from Southeast Asia countries who visit Jakarta to support their country’s athletes who competed in SEA Games as well as to visit tourism places in Jakarta.

“We assure there will be an increase of foreign tourists in tourism places in Jakarta. We hope their number could reach 10 percent of total foreign tourist visits in September 2011,” he expressed, Friday (11/18). Based on Jakarta Central Statistic Board (BPS) data, the total of foreign tourist visits in Jakarta along September 2011 reached 147,999 visits.

Head of Jakarta Statistic Center Board Agus Suherman also predicts that foreign tourist visits will continue to increase until the end of year. Besides SEA Games, there are also Christmas and new year’s eve events where many tourism as well as entertainment places will offer tour packages to attract visitors. “Until this end of year, we predict that foreign tourists will continue to increase. But, we cannot predict its number,” he said.
