Singapore Tourism will launch a new marketing campaign in India in the next couple of months. With the new campaign, the national tourism board of Singapore plans to enhance the “engagement” with the India market in future. The information about plans for a new India campaign was disclosed by G B Srithar, Area Director – Marketing, South Asia, Singapore Tourism, in an interaction with TravelBiz Monitor.
“We have not conducted any major campaigns in the Indian market for quite some time. We were actually trying to study the expectations of the evolving Indian traveller. And now, we are almost ready to launch the new campaign based on our assessment,” stated Srithar.
Declining to reveal the details of the campaign, Srithar said that the new campaign will be more on the lines of much evolved campaigns of Singapore Tourism like ‘Enriching Singapore,’ but with a “slight twist.” He said that the focus of the new campaign will be on “four different types of experiences” that Singapore can offer to an evolved traveller.
He said that future campaigns will be targeted at luring repeat travellers into Singapore from India. Moreover, the focus will be to attract more events and meetings business into Singapore. According to Srithar, Singapore Tourism will target large event and exhibition organisers in India and convince them about the various facilities available in Singapore for such MICE events.
“India continues to be an important source market for Singapore. It is the fifth largest inbound market and fourth largest in terms of tourism spend,” he informed. When asked for the recent trends, Srithar said that unlike in the past, spending on accommodation by Indian travellers has witnessed a major increase in the past few years.
Inbound into Singapore from India has posted a year-on-year growth of 5.2 per cent during the January to October, 2011 period. As per Singapore Tourism figures, 7.18 lakh Indians visited Singapore in the first ten months of 2011.
