As many as 162,368 of foreign tourist who visited to capital city through Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tanjungpriok Port and Halim Perdanakusumah Airport were recorded along January 2012. The number of visitor is declining compared to last December 2011 which reached 168,363 people or 3.56 percent. Yet, the total of foreign tourist along January 2012 was 11.84 percent higher compared to same period last year. Therefore, Jakarta Tourism and Culture Department must increase foreign tourist’s interest to visit the city.
“It is hoped Jakarta tourism and culture department holding many annual agenda to attract foreign tourist’s interest in capital city in order to gain the tourist visit next month,” said Head Section of Distribution Statistic, Jakarta Statistic Center Board (BPS) Dody Rudyanto, Friday (3/2).
The highest foreign tourists who have visited the city came from Malaysia with 19,008 visits. Followed by China 18,061 visits, Japan 13,443 visits, Singapore 12,893 visits, Saudi Arabia 9,664 visits, South Korea 9,185 visits, Australia 7,290 visits, Taiwan 6,339 visits, the United States 5,944 visits, and India 4,953 visits.
Head of Jakarta Tourism and Culture Department Arie Budhiman said that his side should see city condition especially for developing economic issues, security condition, etc to set the target of foreign tourist visit this year. “The preparation of infrastructure also becomes a challenge as an effort to attract foreign tourist in the city, especially road infrastructure,” said Arie.
He predicts the growth of foreign tourist visit will increase in city minimal 10 percent of total foreign tourist visit last year. According to BPS’s data, a total of foreign tourist in February 2011 up to January 2012 reached 2,021,133 visits. It is predicted the number of foreign tourist visit to be able to reach 2,223,246 visits along 2012.
