China and New Zealand unite for tourism

Tourism New Zealand has engaged in a three day expedition to Shenzen, China to explore the growing travel sector and establish connections within the Asian market.

“As part of Tourism New Zealand’s China Mission we’re showcasing New Zealand to markets in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. We are offering our products to maturing and mammoth tourism markets,” said Trent Yeo, associate for NZ eco-touring company Ziptrek.

The tour was formed to develop a deeper understanding of what Chinese tourists want when travelling to destinations such as New Zealand.

“It seems to us very important to spend time in popular Chinese resorts, to engage in their environment and learn about why they travel and what they love about it. We need to understand this new market if we are to successfully host these people,” Mr Yeo said.

In May, the Tourism Industry Association of New Zealand will host TRENZ in Queenstown, an opportunity for the NZ travel industry and tour operators to showcase products, build business relationships and develop networking opportunities.

“It will be a great opportunity to follow up the appointments that we have in Shenzen, China,” Mr Yeo added.
