Singapore is set to open a brand new cruise terminal this year after the country’s tourism leaders released plans to unveil a new docking spot to help usher increasing number of cruisers and vessels.
Announced this month, the new International Cruise Terminal (ICT) is targeted to open by the second quarter of this year and is pegged to attract larger, new generation cruise ships as well as provide support for the existing ICT, Cruise Industry News reported.
Figures showed Singapore welcomed up to 942,000 passengers throughout 2011, a figure that is expected to continue growing per year and according to Singapore Tourism Board chief executive Kah-Peng Aw the new ICT will “mark a milestone” on the region’s journey toward creating a cruise hub in Singapore.
“Not only will the ICT offer cruise passengers a smooth and seamless experience, we expect it to help heighten awareness of Singapore as an exciting cruise destination globally,” Ms Aw said.
As well as catering to larger ships, the new US$400 million terminal will include a finger pier design, advanced technology capable to turning around passengers by up to 30 minutes, a spacious arrival and departure hall and a large ground transportation area.
