Malaysia in bid to attract a million Japanese tourists by 2014

Efforts are being made to attract one million Japanese tourists to Malaysia by 2014.

Tourism Malaysia and the Japan Association of Travel Agents (Jata) inked a memorandum to achieve this joint initiative.The signing was held at the Four Seasons Hotel Chinzanso, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo on April 10.

Tourism Malaysia was represented by deputy director-general of marketing Chong Yoke Har while Jata deputy chairman Takashi Sasaki signed for the other side.

“This is our first programme to attract a million Japanese tourists to Malaysia.If successful, it will be a big milestone for the Malaysian tourism industry.

“We look forward to warmly welcome all Japanese visitors, especially those who have yet to visit Malaysia,” Chong said in thanking Jata for its enthusiasm in implementing the initiative.

Sasaki said the targeted one million figure was achievable.“We will place our efforts on expanding tourism exchange programmes, as well as encouraging mutual understanding and improving relations between Japan and Malaysia,” he added.
