A sustainable tourism industry is imperative for the world and the Pacific Asia Travel Association (Pata) is taking steps to make that a reality, said its chief executive Martin Craigs.
He said various plans initiated during the conference this year were likely to give a new focus to environmental-friendly tourism in the tourism industry.
“I am pleased to take the challenge of Deputy Prime Minister (Tan Sri) Muhyiddin Yassin to make the tourism industry grow in tandem, without forgetting the environment elements.
“During this year's conference, a variety of work has been planned and will be implemented on schedule,” he said when closing the 2012 Pata annual conference themed “Building the Business Beyond Profits” here yesterday.
Yesterday, Muhyiddin, in his speech at the conference, called on Pata to take note of the climate change impacts on natural attractions, as well as business and tourism activities.
