MALAYSIA tourism looks to step up a notch by working closely with the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA).

Speaking at the PATA 2012 media conference, Dato' Hj Azizan Noordin, Acting Director General of Tourism Malaysia outlined the importance of working with the travel association.

"We are going up to a different level now and for Tourism Malaysia, we feel that it is high time we go along with PATA as we want to be a world class (tourism) industry".

Last year, Malaysia recorded 24.7 million tourists generating RM58.3 billion in tourism revenue, about RM1 billion a week or RM160 million a day.

Malaysia is focusing on high end tourist segments such as F1 race events, as well the luxury special packages which would include helicopter tours are amongst new attractions in Malaysia.

Various organisations are now sharing a platform with PATA, targeting issues that are of extreme importance to businesses in Asia, such as the current situation where the UK government imposed a stealth tax of over US$500 for every long haul ticket affecting Asia's tourism.
