Malaysia was recognised with three honours at the Pacific Asia Travel Association's (Pata) 2012 Gold Awards ceremony.

The country's national tourism agency was recognised in categories covering marketing and marketing media for its A Million Experiences to Share campaign and for a series of posters featuring orangutans, scuba diving, Mount Kinabalu and other images.

Frangipani Langkawi Resort & Spa picked up the third award in one of the environment sections for the management of its waste water system.

Shahrin Mokhtar of Tourism Malaysia said the organisation's marketing initiatives are designed to highlight the country's richness and diversity.

'From eco-tourism to community-based homestay programmes to opportunities for adventure, and of course our beautiful beaches and cosmopolitan cities, Malaysia offers a unique mix of experiences for travellers,' he added.

The nation's tourism ministry has recently launched new initiatives that could interest holidaymakers, such as the Malaysia Shopping Carnival and the Fabulous Food culinary festival.
