On your bike. Malaysia’s potential tourism

Malaysian Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen has challenged the idea and potential of bicycle tourism in the country.

The Minister said businessmen could come up with star-rated cycling packages, ranging from two-star to six-star, to further promote domestic tourism.

The Tourism Ministry has challenged Malaysian businessmen to tap the vast potential in bicycle tourism and come up with star-rated cycling packages.

"They could offer creative-themed packages incorporated with their bicycle rentals,” the Minister said.

At the opening of the Kulim Family Fun Ride programme at Tasik Putra, the Minister suggested "they could have nature trail packages, tourist destination packages or even local food and delicacies packages in their areas."

Although the ministry does not sell products, it helps create awareness of opportunities for tourism companies.

"On my part, I will help promote the cycling packages under our Cuti-Cuti 1Malaysia and Malaysia Truly Asia promotions," Ms Yen Yen said while urging local community organisations to form their own tourism committees.

“If local communities come together to learn some of Malaysia's popular cultural dances, they could then present them to tourists as part of the attractions in their respective areas," Ms Yen Yen said.
