TG stays with Nepal service

Thai Airways International?s Nepal services are back in a revised summer schedule, but frequency will be reduced to daily. The Bangkok-Kathmandu route was suspended from the summer timetable, along with Kuwait and the seasonal, Gaya and Varanasi service.

However, behind the scenes, the management had a change of heart, almost within days of making the decision to axe one of the airlines oldest and most successful regional routes.

In the new summer timetable, effective 28 March, the Bangkok-Kathmandu service will be cut back from nine flights a week to daily.  Flights will depart Bangkok at 1035 and arrive in Nepal at 1245. The return flights will depart Kathmandu at 1350 and land in Bangkok at 1835. The roundtrip fare is Bt18,775, all inclusive.

According to the airline?s website, THAI was the first international airline to operate a jet service to Kathmandu on 4 December 1968, using 72-seater SE 210 Caravelle aircraft. It can justly claim to have pioneered tourism to the Himalayan Kingdom particularly from Australia and European markets.

In the beginning, THAI operated just one flight a week, but increased frequencies to daily in October 1997, using A300-600 aircraft.
