HANOI, 14 August 2012: Vietnam’s tourism industry needs to step up to the plate and be creative in developing new products according to officials who called for a country-wide reorganisation of long-term tourism strategic plans.

Vietnam National Administration of Tourism deputy general director, Hoang Thi Diep, said in order to build brand, it was essential to build good tourism products that satisfy customers and the tourism industry should accept that challenge.

“Despite our limited budget, VNAT should hone in on different marketing methods and pay more attention to the role of the internet.”

He added: “Moreover, renovating VNAT’s website should be refocused to promote tourism effectively and also focus on human resources and training to build tourism industry standards.”

An Environmentally and Socially Responsible Tourism Capacity Development Programme suggested that Vietnam’s tourism sector should reorganise its marketing and promotional plans to encourage the industry to be more creative.

ESRT also suggested tourism operators should research markets, focus investment and increase promotion via the internet.

Based on the core branding “Vietnam – Timeless charm” the sector also should develop various sub–messages to promote different tourist products while using the overall theme stated in the branding.
