Khao Lak adds rooms

PHANG NGA, 16 August 2012: Five new hotels in and around Khao Lak are due to open during the fourth quarter of this year, adding 1,014 rooms to Phang Nga province’s room count.

The Tourism Coordination Centre, Phang Nga province, that comes under the Tourism Authority of Thailand, said the five properties, in the mid to five-star categories will be managed by local hotel groups.

They are Sensimar Khao Lak Beachfront Resort on Khao Lak Beach (151 rooms), Beach Sands Khao Lak by Katathani Resorts on Nang Thong Beach (316 rooms), Mai Khaolak Beach Resort and Spa on Pak Weep Beach (200 rooms), Sentido Graceland Khao Lak Resort and Spa on Bang Sak Beach (338 rooms) and Khao Lak Blue Lagoon Resort on Khuk Khak Beach (nine rooms).

They are funded by local developers who already have hotels in the area such as Kamala Beach Phuket, Katathani Group, Andaman Seaview Phuket and Phuket Graceland.

Phang Nga currently has 170 hotels with 7,500 rooms , mostly located in Khao Lak area.

The latest tourist data from the Department of Tourism shows that in 2011, Phang Nga received 267,944, international tourists up 2.62% from 261,108 in 2010. Of this, 195,306 were foreigners and just 72,639 were Thai.
