Christmas 2012: Hyderabadis heading for foreign shores during Xmas holidays

HYDERABAD: A growing number of holidaymakers from Hyderabad are finding Vietnam and Cambodia as their favourite destinations, say travel agents. Despite a nearly 30% hike in air fares and hotel rates, backpackers from the city are still keen on making most of this season by visiting Thailand, Sri Lanka, Dubai, Maldives, Bali, etc.

"The December holiday season contributes around 25% to the total business in a year. Especially in Hyderabad, a lot of families and newly-weds choose this time to travel abroad," said Nitin Bhandari, franchise owner of Cox and Kings. "As prices of air tickets and hotel rates are likely to go up by nearly 30% to 40%, city travellers seem to have grown wiser this year as they booked their tickets well in advance," he added.
