The Macquarie Riversmart program wants to develop an eco-cultural tourist trail from Burrendong Dam to the Macquarie Marshes. The Wellington Shire Council has agreed to give the group $1,000 plus staff support and meeting rooms to help progress the idea.
Jenny Quealey from Macquarie Riversmart says the group also needs the support of the Dubbo, Narromine and Warren councils."It brings the focus back to the river, this fantastic Macquarie River that we have got and helping all of us with the leadership of those groups, the councils and others to really get the right kind of thinking and care for the Macquarie River itself," she said.
Ms Quealey says getting the Wellington Shire on board is key to the project's success.
