Irrationality and superstition sadly grasp into Malaysia Airlines MH370 disappearance

KUALA LUMPUR- As the missing Malaysia Airlines aircraft flight MH370 enters into its 10th day search, irrationality has also emerging last week as more news became available. On the 14th, during a daily press conference, Malaysian government announced to On March 15, the Malaysian government finally admitted that the aircraft disappearance was due to deliberate action while Malaysian authorities look now at investigating identities and records of the crew and passengers.

The captain of the aircraft has been for example suspected of a revenge act. The story was revealed by the UK Daily Mail and reproduced by Malaysian newspapers. The Daily Mail reported that said police sources confirmed that the 53-year-old captain was a political activist and supporter of former Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. The latter was again convinced of sodomy on March 7 as judges in Kuala Lumpur reverted a previous judgment who cleared the politician. Ibrahim was sentenced again to a five- year term in jail, a development which could have upset the captain. Police looked after proofs at the pilot's home in Shah Alam. They also look at records concerning the co-pilot. Many people came out to defend both pilots and tell about their seriousness and commitment.

On Saturday, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak declared that the authorities have found strong evidence that the plane was deliberately diverted from its flight path from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. According to further data, the aircraft was still able to fly another six to seven hours. It means that flying the aircraft without the help of radars is the work of a professional if this is the case. And then, it also indicates that the aircraft is not between Vietnam, China and the South China Sea but hidden somewhere in Southwest or Central Asia… Authorities believe the aircraft could be between Kazakhstan, Sumatra and India.
Malaysia consequently requested assistance from at least 15 countries located along what they call the "northern and southern corridors" as they extended their search for the Flight MH370.

These include Thailand, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, India, China, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, Indonesia, Australia and France. However, the Minister of Transport Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein indicated that no group has come to claim responsibility about a potential act of terrorism. “We are looking into all possibilities and we are not taking anything for granted,” Hishammuddin said on Saturday.

The disappearance of the aircraft has shown some communication problems within the Malaysian government with China accusing Malaysia of hiding or not telling all the information it has in its possession. Many have been infuriated about the lack of information especially as families are suffering a terrible psychological tragedy. Rumours abounded while the government has to spend his time denying them…

Add on it a ridiculous incident involving a local shaman or witch master, - called “bomoh” in Malay. The BBC reported about the ridicule of the gesture of a man, carrying coconuts and bamboo binoculars at KLIA international airport last Wednesday. Social media became overactive with most tweeters feeling embarrassed. As the witch master claimed that a Malaysian leader asked him to come, the Government was forced to step in and deny any official involvement over the shaman’s presence. Internet users have derided the use of a Bomoh and blame the government and Malaysian airports authority to allow such a ceremony within the air terminal.

The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) –where the airport is located- has since released a directive asking its officers at KLIA to arrest anyone seen to be performing rituals which would go against Islamic teachings.
Malaysia Airlines plane disappeared from radar screens on Saturday March 8 with 227 passengers and 12 crew on the Kuala Lumpur-Beijing route.
