LAMPANG : Nok Air will launch daily services connecting Bangkok (DMK) to Lampang starting 26 October.
According to the airline’s announcement, the twice daily flights will depart Bangkok in the morning and evening.
Lampang is best known for its horse drawn carriages and its many historic temples as well as HM the King’s stable of white elephants at the Thailand Elephant Conservation Centre.
Most visitors simply visit Lampang to see the Thailand Elephant Conservation Centre, bypassing Lampang town on their way to Chiang Mai and provinces further north. The highway passes the elephant centre.
However, while the elephant centre is certainly a must-see attraction, those willing to spend some time in the provincial capital are usually surprised by the town’s heritage and tourism appeal.
Lampang is rich in archaeological sites dating back to kingdoms of Hariphunchai and Lanna. as well as period when Burma’s rulers controlled the far north provinces that now make up Thailand. The horse and carriage, a mode of local transportation that has survived the introduction of automobiles, is a fun way to explore the surprisingly large town, which features a number of beautiful old temples.
