15 Sep 2014  2037 | Business & Trade Fairs

From September 2014 to January 2015, SilkAir will operate its first ever charters between Singapore and Japan, via a series of 12 direct charter services to Okinawa, the country’s southernmost prefecture.

Chartered by Okinawa Tourist Service (OTS) and Jumbo Tours Okinawa, the monthly charters will be from 9 September 2014 until 3 January 2015. The flights will be operated with the Boeing 737-800 aircraft, featuring both Business and Economy Classes. These charters are launched in collaboration with Okinawa-based travel agencies and SilkAir’s local travel agencies, to provide customers visiting Okinawa with the convenience of a direct service from Singapore.

From September 2014 to October 2014, the flights will depart Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 2 at 10:00 hours and reach Okinawa Naha Airport at 16:15 hours. From November 2014 to January 2015, the flights will depart Singapore at 10:00 hours and arrive in Okinawa at 16:05 hours (all times stated are local and scheduled).

Okinawa comprises hundreds of the Ryukyu Islands and these islands extend southwest from Kyushu, which is the southwesternmost of Japan’s main four islands, to Taiwan. Okinawa’s capital, Naha, is located in the southern part of Okinawa Island. The Shuri Castle, which is a registered UNESCO World Heritage Site, is situated in Naha.

The entire prefecture of Okinawa is famous for its warm climate and beaches. Some of the more popular ones are Tropical Beach, Araha Beach and Kadena Marina Beach. Okinawa is the best place in Japan for watersports and the Okinawa archipelago is known as one of the world’s best diving destinations.
