HO CHI MINH CITY  A new golf course next to the Ho Chi Minh City’s airport gets the green light from golfers, but not from the residents according to a snippet in GolfAsian’s latest newsletter.
Located next door to Vietnam’s busiest airport, local residents question the use of the land for a golf course, a common complaint from non-golfers looking for more park or leisure space in busy urban settings.
Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport shares the real estate with an air force golf course that stands between the military and commercial runways.
Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat airport has long exceeded its capacity ceiling for passengers and plays catch up by extending existing terminals. Plus its neighbours are suffering from traffic congestion and over crowding.
Vietnam Army's EmpireThe Vietnam government has already given the go ahead for a new gateway airport at Long Thanh that should be ready within five to eight years at least in its first phase.
A leading promoter of golf tours and tournaments in Asia, GolfAsian notes that the planned replacement airport will be built on a site close to some existing golf courses.
In the meantime, it recommends the new Ho Chi Minh City golf course, that is managed by army.
