Rinjini halts Bali flights

BANGKOK  Thai Airways International cancelled flights from Bangkok to Denpasar, Bali, Wednesday, due to volcanic ash from Mount Rinjani in Lombok, Indonesia, located to the east of Bali.
Destination Asia Indonesia issued the first alert on the airport closure to the travel trade, Tuesday evening, noting Bali International Airport would remain closed throughout Wednesday. In its second alert it advised the airport was due to reopen Thursday at 0845 (Bali local time, 5 November, 2015).
It noted that at present all other airports in the region (except Banyuwangi) continue to operate as normal.
inside no 8The volcanic ash caused heavy smog to cover the air space, resulting in poor visibility, and the temporary closure of Denpasar Airport.
All airlines operating services, to and from Denpasar, cancelled flights Wednesday, 4 November, out of concern for flight safety.
Denpasar’s airport was due to reopen, 0745 Thursday 5 November (local time, one hour ahead of Thailand), the airline reported.
THAI cancelled flight TG431 from Bangkok-Denpasar and flight TG432 from Denpasar-Bangkok.
THAI flights to and from Denpasar were due to resume once Denpasar Airport officially reopened Thursday morning. TG431 departed from Suvarnabhumi Airport at 1000 to arrive at Denpasar Airport at 1525. The return flight TG432 will depart from Denpasar Airport at 1645 and arrive at Suvarnabhumi Airport at 1940.
THAI operates five flights weekly from Bangkok to Denpasar, on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Usually the flight departs at 0850 and arrives at Denpasar Airport at 1415.
Passengers traveling to Bali are warned to check updates as further airport closures due to volcanic ash are possible.
