THAI creates more codeshare options

27 Apr 2017  2050 | Business & Trade Fairs

BANGKOK Thai Airways International has added more codeshare flights through its subsidiary airline Thai Smile.

The announcement comes on the heels of extensive codeshare agreement signed with Bangkok Airways earlier this month. Thai Smile’s management probably complained that it stood to lose business on competitive routes  served by privately owned Bangkok Airways if it didn’t have its own codeshares in place with TG.

However, passengers can only benefit from a wider choice of codeshare flights that allows them to make seamless connections at gateway airports with more convenient connecting times on either Bangkok Airways or Thai Smile.

For example, Bangkok Airways codeshare with THAI offers passengers the option of two daily flights to Luang Prabang. The codeshare with Thai Smile operates on just four flights weekly.

Inflight meal service on Bangkok Airways is more substantial and for families there is more space between seats.

The upside for Thai Smile is the ease passengers can earn points using their THAI frequent flyer card. Fares are about the same on both airlines.

THAI’s executive vice president, Commercial Department Teerapol Chotichanapibal, confirmed the parent airline has adjusted its flight schedule in the summer programme by increasing codeshare flights with Thai Smile to several new destinations in the region, making it more convenient for THAI passengers to connect flights to a wider selection of destinations.

The codeshares are valid on routes Bangkok-Siem Reap, Bangkok-Kota Kinabalu, Bangkok-Chittagong, and Bangkok-Luang Prabang.
