AoT report stronger growth

BANGKOK, 24 July 2012: June delivered a positive performance for the Airports of Thailand according to the company’s June data on the six airports under its management.

Aircraft movements and passenger traffic at the six airports improved by 9.26% (34,885 to 38,115) and 13.17% (4,836,024 to 5,473,106) respectively, while for six months the gains were 8.91% (223,381 to 243,288) and 10.57% (33,497,618 to 37,039,353).

At Thailand’s main gateway, Suvarnabhumi Airport, AoT reported gains in both aircraft movements and passengers.

International aircraft movements were up by 6.12% (17,029 to 18,071) with the six-month figure up by 7.93% (106,798 to 115,269). Domestic movements gained 23.53% (5,448 to 6,730) in June and 34.48% (38,302 to 51,509) for the first half of the year.

International passenger traffic gained 11% (2,809,334 to 3,118,269) in June with an increase of 7.56% over six months (18,790,240 to 20,211,251).

Domestic passenger traffic in June increased 32.42% (691,314 to 915,427) and by 38.31% (5,208,378 to 7,203,509) for the six months.

Phuket International Airport, the southern gateway to Thailand, also reported gains in all sectors. International aircraft movements in June rose 6.71% (1,983 to 2,116), and 11.26% (14,190 to 15,788) over six months.

Domestic movements also grew 4.24% (2,145 to 2,236) in June and 0.05% (14,199 to 14,206) over six months.

International passengers increased 10.79% (273,702 to 303,222) in June and 12.77% (2,213,384 to 2,495,999) for the six-month period.

Domestic passengers gained 14.76% (277,686 to 318,667) in June and 9.05% (2,060,309 to 2,246,707) for the six months.

Chiang Mai International Airport registered improvements. International Aircraft movements in June were up 26.03% (292 to 368) and increased 22.56% (1,955 to 2,396) for the first six months of the year. The domestic sector gained 7.04% (2,189 to 2,343) and 11.88% (14,206 to 15,894) from January to June.

International passengers rose 24.42% (27,012 to 33,609) and 35.63% (182,038 to 246,904) for the six months. Domestic passenger traffic increased 11.79% (235,593 to 263,373) in June and  17.17% (1,647,480 to 1,930,410) for the first half of this year.

Don Mueang Airport is making a slow recovery after its forced closure, last year, due to floods. It reopened in March, this year, but work is still going on to renovate terminal buildings.

Aircraft movements in June improved 5.88% from 4,015 to 4,215 movements. Over the six months movements were down 27.56% from 22,384 to 16,214.

Passenger traffic decreased 12.50% (329,123 to 287,998) in June and 42.95% (2,035,832 to 1,161,450) over six months.

Hat Yai International Airport, despite its name caters almost exclusively to domestic flights.

Aircraft movements were up just 3.30% from 1,000 to 1,033, while during the six-month period there were gains of 3.63% from 6,138 to 6,361.

Passenger traffic grew 16.38% from 120,918 to 140,719, and 11.99% from 842,485 to 943,494 over six months.

Chiang Rai International Airport has a single international service twice weekly from Kunming in China.

Domestic aircraft movements grew 13.43% (432 to 490) in June and increased 12.82% (3,121 to 3,521) from January to June this year.

Passenger traffic increased 24.63% from 52,091 to 64,921 and 16.58% from 408,785 to 476,560 for the first half of this year.
