Danang considers retirement resort

DANANG Danang’s city authority is calling for companies to invest in a resort project exclusively for Japanese seniors.
Local media reported that the city has zoned a coastal area of more than 10 hectares near Quang Nam province for the long-stay projects.
Some investors have studied potential projects already and the city will eventually open sites for bids based on designs submitted and operational skills for such ventures, according to that the city’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
inside no 2The number of Japanese tourists in Danang has increased since the launch of Vietnam Airlines’ air route between Danang and Japan’s Tokyo Narita, last July.
The report also said members of the Japan Association of Travel Agents recommended the city move into the seniors market as more than 3 million elderly Japanese travel overseas annually.
In 2013, the city welcomed 41,000 Japanese an increase of 53%, although many of them were on multi town tours that included Danang for jus a short stay.
Currently, there are 426 hotels with 15,465 rooms in the city. Hotels of three-to-five-star hotels make up 71 with more than 7,260 rooms.
During January to September, this year, 3 million tourists visited the city, an increase of 18.8% year-on-year. Of that, international arrivals expanded by 18.4% to 657,600, while domestic visits surged by 19.1% to more than 2.36 million.
According to the General Statistics Office’s data, 486,431 Japanese visited Vietnam for the first nine months, up nearly 8.09% during the same period last year.
