Prime ministers from Cambodia and Thailand are set to meet later this month for talks on border tensions that have erupted several times into violence and sunk diplomatic relations between the two countries to their lowest point in seven years, government officials have confirmed.
Cambodian premier Hun Sen agreed yesterday to a request from his Thai counterpart Abhisit Vejjajiva to meet on the sidelines of this month’s ASEAN-US summit, according to Foreign Affairs spokesman Koy Kuong. “Samdech Hun Sen accepted the meeting and the two premiers will discuss bilaterally,” Koy Kuong said Thursday. The summit, which will see 10 regional heads sit down for talks with US President Barack Obama, is scheduled to take place in New York on September 24.
