President Pratibha Patil arrived in the northern Cambodian city of Siem Reap on Thursday, and laid the foundation for the Asian Textiles Museum here. The museum, to be constructed by December 2011, is being funded by the Indian Council of Cultural Relations.
The museum will display fabric and textiles from the member countries of the Mekong Ganga Cooperation: India, Thailand, Burma, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam, in one place for the first time. The choice of location in Siem Reap was decided on the basis of the town's reputation as a major international tourism centre.
