Taiwanese shipping giant Evergreen says it has opened an office in Cambodia to expand operations in the country.
Evergreen Shipping Services (Cambodia) was set up as a subsidiary of Evergreen Marine Corporation, which accounts for seven percent of the global vessel fleet capacity.
On April 25, the company will launch a weekly service stopping at ports in China, Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City), Thailand (Laem Chabang), as well as the coastal town of Sihanoukville in Cambodia.
Evergreen will use two container ships, each capable of carrying 1,618 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU), a measure of capacity based on the size of containers.
“Evergreen looks forward to providing more efficient and reliable transport services for the future development of the Cambodian economy,” the company said.
The representative of Evergreen Shipping Services (Cambodia) said the company office would open this month.
Sin Chanthy, president of the Cambodia Freight Forwarders Association, said that due to the Cambodian economy and tremendous growth in trade, foreign shipping companies, particularly Evergreen, had set up offices in Cambodia.
