Sumitronics Manufacturing (Cambodia) Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of Sumitronics Corporation, a Japan-based electronics manufacturer, will set up a factory in Poipet Special Economic Zone, with the company reaching a land leasing agreement with the SEZ yesterday.

Sumitronics Manufacturing will become the first tenant at Poipet PPSEZ, which came online late last year. The company has been operating in Poipet since 2016, where it rented a factory.

The new factory will help the company fuel their expansion in Cambodia, according to a press release from the SEZ.

Hiroshi Uematsu, CEO of Poipet PPSEZ, told Khmer Times that Poipet is becoming a regional hotspot for industrial development in the region due to its strategic location, connectivity and abundant young labour force.

“We expect manufacturers who want to expand their production based on the ‘Thai+1’ economic model,” he said. “Particularly, we are targeting electronics and auto parts manufacturers who have operated in Thailand for decades,” he said.

“We are very proud to welcome Sumitronics Manufacturing to Poipet PPSEZ. Sumitronics Manufacturing is the first company to join us. We expect more companies to set up their operations at Poipet PPSEZ in the near future.”
