With the next edition of the Cambodia Architect and Décor International Exhibition just around the corner, both government and private sector agree the future of the sector lies with the concept of ‘smart city’.

Organised by ICVeX Co Ltd in collaboration with the Cambodian Society of Architects, the third edition of the architecture and interior design forum will be held at Phnom Penh’s Diamond Island Convention and Exhibition Centre on May 24-26.

“The event will push forward the development of the architecture and design sectors and help increase the quality of buildings in the kingdom,” said Phuong Sophean, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Land Management, speaking at a press conference yesterday.

“It will inspire the next generation of architects and interior designers,” he added.

Mr Sophean highlighted the importance of the smart city concept for the upcoming forum. “We want to get companies in the sector thinking about smart houses, smart offices and smart buildings.

“Smart cities increase people’s living standards and are beneficial to the economy,” he said, lamenting the apparent lack of smart building projects in the kingdom and inviting companies to join what has become a global trend in the industry.
