A new laboratory for testing local products and issue quality certificates will open in Phnom Penh’s Meanchey district by the end of 2019, the Ministry of Handicraft recently announced.

It will be the second industrial laboratory centre in the Kingdom, Cham Prasidh, the Minister of Industry, said on Tuesday during a visit to the site where the lab is being built, adding that it will also be the biggest and most modern in the Kingdom yet, occupying an area of 6,000 square metres with a garden and a water treatment pool.

Construction is expected to finish by the end of 2019, Mr Pradish noted.

“The laboratory centre will be under the Institute of Standards of Cambodia (ISC), and it will be equipped with modern lab facilities to test all kinds of products for export and ensure they comply with national and international standards and can compete with products from other nations,” Mr Prasidh said.

He said it will be key in boosting the economy and creating jobs.

Chan Sopha, deputy director at ISC, told Khmer Times the new facility will be composed of seven storeys with a bigger capacity and more advanced equipment than that of the existing laboratory in Russey Keo district, along National Road 5, also in the capital.

“The goal of our new lab centre is to help local manufacturers and the industrial sector as a whole,” he said, adding that the government will start negotiations with buyer nations to get them to recognise the results of the lab.
