Cambodia Airways, a recently established local airline, launch last week its first international route, connecting major cities in the Kingdom to the Chinese special administrative region of Macau.

The company is now operating flights to Macau from three major Cambodian cities: Siem Reap (daily), Phnom Penh (four times per week), and Sihanoukville (three times per week).

Samnang Putheany, manager of public relations and business development at the airline, said the new routes will boost the number of tourists travelling to each destination.

“Right now, we have more Chinese customers than locals because a lot of Chinese are interested in visiting Cambodia,” he said.

“Given the government’s policy of cooperating with Macau to strengthen tourism, there are many benefits to establishing these routes.”

Ho Vandy, advisor to the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce and president of World Express Tour and Travel, told Khmer Times that the new routes will bolster the number of tourists and investors travelling to the Kingdom.

“With more and more companies entering the local market, competition is getting fiercer, which will benefit people travelling from Cambodia to China and viceversa,” he said.

Thourn Sinan, chairman of the Cambodian chapter of the Pacific Asia Travel Association, said the new routes were a great addition to the local flight offer.
